Ping/Lag Spikes over wifi

Hi,

 

I've been having trouble playing some online games or using applications that require real time data transfers whenever I'm on wifi. Usually applications run fine with low pings: 30ms - 60ms, until I get ping spikes: 300ms - 1500ms every 2 minutes or so. This is a regular occurrence, no matter the time of day though it's typically worse at peak hours. More details:

 

  • This only happens over wifi, never when I'm connected via Ethernet
  • This happens on all my devices, including smart phones
  • It happens on all kinds of applications: Online videogames (and not just one), skype, facetime, wifi calling
  • I've had Vz support come twice on this issue: They replaced both the router and ONT
  • Support has also claimed they fixed an issue in their CO
  • This issue persists even when the AP is in Line of Sight ~1 meter
  • Fios-G1100, 1Gbps subscription

I've used a ping tool on my gateway (wifi router) and I consistently see the ping spike using PsPing

 My indoor RF buddy has told me that unlicensed AP radios have to stop all traffic to do a listen sweep every 2 minutes or so in order to comply with an FCC mandate. 

 

Is this what's happening here? It makes sense but I want to hear it from someone more familiar with Verizon's wifi hardware.

 

Ultimately, my question: is it possible to eliminate these ping spikes over wifi? Do I need to purchase my own AP? Please do not tell me to use a wired connection - I'd like to have the mobility wifi provides.

G3100 - Changing device name in Network status does not work

I just upgraded to fios gigabit internet with the new router G3100. I have about 30+ devices connecting to the network, both via wired and wireless connections. In the Network status details page, As most devices are listed with name "unknown-<Mac Addresss>", I used the drop down option to rename the device. I changed all the 30+ devices and was happy.

 

The next time the route rebooted after a few days, I realized that all the name definitions I made were lost. This is frustrating.

Is there a way to retain these device names, across a router reboot.

New Model G300 Fios Home Router and Original Google WiFi

Hello - I've noticed that on the website for this router it states the following:

 

Note: This product is only compatible with the Fios Home Wi-Fi Extender (Model #E3200), and many features, including SON feature will not work as designed when paired with a different extender.

 

Does that mean it won't work with the original Google Wifi devices?  I have three in a box unused and it would be great to get them to work together.  If anyone knows please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have spent all day trying to get my internet issue fixed!  On hold for over an hour, tried chat, call back...  neither work, just freeze page...  I finally spoke to someone who couldn't fix my issue, said he'd have someone call me back at 3...  again almost an hour later and no call.  Internet is still jacked up.  Why is Verizon so frustrating????  There isn't even a place to file a complaint!!!  You'd think they'd want to know about their **bleep** service!  Funny, the server reported an error and can't post...  This company is unbelievable!

New router G3100 lack of features

Jus upgraded to fios gigabit internet and got the new G3100 router. Before that was using a Tplink archer C5400. With the Tplink, I was using a usb hard disk to store surveillance camera alrm recordings via ftp. Albeit the G3100 has the USB 3.0 port, just found out i cannot use it; support told me that the port is not enabled and would consider my issues for future update. That sucks. looks like I might have to switch back to the Tplilnk....

Router G3100 Port and port forwarding

On my previous Tplink router setuo, I was using port forwarding to access individual surveillance cameras, remotely,  while traveling. I am getting ready to setup that to see if I can really continue to use G3100.

Are others using port forwarding successfully on this G3100 router? I would appreciate any insights into this. 

Installation fee not being waivered as promised

So, when we started to take Verizon services they promised us that the installation fees will be waived. However it’s a year now and the amount hasn’t been credited back. On top of it, they have suspended our services owing to the payment. Verizon, you are losing a loyal customer just because of your false promises. Have some credibility and do not trouble loyal customers

Verizon running credit checks without permission

Hello I just signed up for new service. During the process i "unchecked" the box to allow Verizon to run a credit check. I seen the message about maybe having the leave a deposit, that I was fine with. The system ran a credit check anyway , which generated a hard inquiry that I was trying to avoid. Can you please tell me the process to have this removed?


Use G1100 as MOCA bridge only

I've done this before but not recently so I wanted to post here to make sure I have the steps down.

  • Login to the G1100 and change the IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2
  • Wifi is disabled already as I'm using my own AP's
  • turn off DHCP
  • turn off firewall
  • Release the IP and unplug the Ethernet cable from ONT and power cycle
  • Plug Ethernet cable from ONT into my Edgerouter-X WAN port
  • DHCP scope is 192.168.1.30 - .240 on Edgerouter
  • Take an Ethernet cable and patch any LAN port on my Edgerouter to any LAN port on the G1100

That's it right? I don't need to remotely view my DVR but I still want the TV guide to function and on-demand.

So for several years I have been checking and rechecking FIOS availability while my neighborhood is being built.   I watched as the Verizon trucks came in and laid conduit through peoples yards, causing quite a stir, and neighbors around me all getting hooked up for service.  Current, what appears to be 75%, of my neighborhood is hooked up for FIOS internet/TV but i'm still not able to get it.  The house right next door, 10" away, can get it.   I have done spot checking and it seems that only a line of houses in my hood can't get it.  I have conduit laid to the juncion box, installed it when the house was built, but still, no glass for FIOS.   What do I need to do to get someone to just look over my case and tell me why?  Doesn't make sense.

changing from coax to ethernet

I have Verizon fios internet only.  I want to do a couple of things.  Have Verizon switch from their cable setup to enthernet .   I want to change from their router to my own router.  And finally, connect an Ethernet cable directly to my smart tv.  I have been researching, but am still confused on what to do.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I am not very tech wise.  

can't connect to work VPN

I recently upgraded Fios and now can not connect to my work server.  Work IT says it is a FIOS gateway problem.  Acting as my DNS at home, it should return NXDOMAIN so I can connect to work.  Agree? and is there a way to fix this?  


Network extender does not pair

Got a network extender (black ). Set it up through a coaxial splitter.

 

identified router ssid and paired.

 

now I call in to buy it, was told I have to return and buy another one.

 

so finally ordered one and this piece (white) comes up alright but does not pair to the router :-(. 

I am supposed to return the black one (works) else will be charged rental.

 

i have already spent 4-5 hrs trying various options.

 

was on the phone waiting for tech support like 2 times for 45 mins no one showed up.

 

Verizon fios has never been so bad wit support . I was sold something that does not work and it’s on my time wasted here .

verizon speed test wont run

I have Verizon FIOS with 1nternet 100 mps/100mps with a new G3100 dual-band router. Running Windows 10 home. The last couple of days I try to run the test the page loads but the test won't run.  The dots keep flashing and that's it.  I've run speed tests on other sites and they show I'm getting my full speed.  I've rebooted the router and that doesn't change anything.  I was wondering if anyone has this problem and any suggestions to correct it?

Fios Extender and Router

I currently have a netgear extender.  I want to set up permissions on my Verizon router to basically turn off my children's internet at a certain time.  I can do this on every computer except the one that is connected to the netgear extender.  I've logged into the myfiosgateway and am unable to see the netgear extender or the computer that currently is connected to it.  Would i need to buy a Verizon extender? 

Cancel Pending LifeLink Internet Order

Hello:

 

On Thursday, January 23rd 10:00 am ET, I called Verizon as an approved LifeLink customer in MA. I wanted to set up basic internet. I was told I had to sign up for regular customer internet service and even click “Agree” to the texted contract before I would be emailed a Verizon LifeLink application. So I did. Was given a lengthy order number. The email didn’t arrive.

 

After over an hour on the phone trying to sort this out, I was finally told it was “in process” and to wait an hour and call back. I called back. Was finally sent Verizon LifeLink pdf application which would have to be printed, filled out by hand, and mailed back. Yes, in 2020. Anyway, the first line indicated I could either choose a mobile or internet LifeLink account not both. This immediately eliminated an internet account option. I called back Verizon at 12:00 pm ET to cancel the morning order. 

 

I then spent until 4:45 pm ET on the phone with Verizon talking to, on hold, “call back in an hour”, “give us 3 days to fix and then decline when the installers show up at your door”, “I’ll call you back”, “I’ll call you back tomorrow or Saturday, I promise”, “you can’t talk to a supervisor”, disconnection after wait 36 minutes, “your order can’t be cancelled as it’s in the back room, offline, no way for us to access”, etc. 

No one called back Friday or Saturday despite promises. All online app cancel directions lead to an obligatory phone call to 1-800-VERIZON. So at 2:00 am ET this morning I left an automated message to call me back at 8:00 am tomorrow. I am doubtful they’ll call. I simply want to cancel my order which is due to be installed Feb 27th. It is not acceptable to have to wait to “decline installation” to that moment. Any help appreciated. I am a longtime Xfinity customer who has never experienced such a nightmare of customer service.
