Fios router and network scanning

[reposted to this appropriate thread]

I just switched to Fios and my wireless Brother MFC-J6530DW scan function stopped working. Printing is no problem. When scanning from the laptop the. "Reading from the device" popup appears and the scanner seems to be scanning, however the scan does not make it to the laptop, the folder does not pop up.   When scanning from the printer a "scan to file button press" popup appears on the laptop prompting for a program to launch.  ControlCenter4 is selected, same result as above.  Same result if McAfee firewall is turned off.  Fios support said no special settings are needed with this new router. Any ideas???

MOCA networking 101

Hey all,

I am trying to get my head wrapped around MOCA networking as it relates to my Quantum gateway system.  I drew this up to share and you are welcome to run with it.  BUT, I need to know where and how to add a MOCA bridge pair so that I can get increased speed.  I chatted with support who told me that VZ throttles the MOCA network to 100MB.  I need more than that for some wired devices.

Take a look at how I think it's all wired and let me know if you have ideas where a MOCA pair can be added.

G3100: Issues Accessing Casino Websites

I have been having an issue accessing a few PA casino websites.  I can access the site, but the geolocation plug-in will not work on either site.  Anyone have any work around for the G3100 router?  Hard line connection from the wall to my laptop work, but will not work on the WiFi signal from the router.

Fios gigabit downloads slower then uploads

I recently had gigabit installed.  My downloads (hard wired) are between 300 and 400 mbps while my uploads are nearly 900 mbps.  I did use my router (NETGEAR nighthawk 7450) but it was previously connected to xfinity.  It was not factory reset as the tech said I just needed to plug it in.  Can anyone help?   Thanks so much.

Does Verizon ever reassign the same IP address to the same router/account holder?

So the other day I had cause to get a new public IP address. I went into the router settings and found the release & renew buttons. I did that, and the next morning I had a new IP address. But then a few days later, I discovered that I once again had a new IP address without me doing anything. Without going into a whole story about it, do I need to worry that I will ever be reassigned an IP address that had already assigned to me before?

Fios gigabit and slow loading websites

Happy New Year everyone!

I had Fios Gigabit installed 2 weeks ago

My iMac is wired via ethernet to the router.

I just did a Speed Test and my download speed was 850 and upload 200

However, there are websites that sometimes take up to 10 seconds to load

When I had Optimum 100/35 these websites would load instantly

I cleared the DNS cache and that did not improve the situation

What am I missing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thank you

Bad Sales Rep - Bad and lying Tech - Bad and lying Contractor

I had been a Verizon customer for 20 plus years, no complaints, everything good.

However, I recently decided to upgrade my Fios Internet from 75 Mbps to 1 GB interned speed. I placed a call to Verizon FiOS, they gave me a good deal but in order to get the deal, I have to agree to a contract, which I did.  The person on the phone also mentioned that they will have to replace old wires and cables because the ones I had were just too old. So, since they were going to do that I requested to please install an Ethernet outlet in the basement (the Verizon room is in the basement). She then told me to ask the technician to do it and that he will charge me $60 or $65 and it will be added to my bill. That's fine I said.

When the technician (Brandon - 410-925-7981) showed up, I asked him:

1- How are you planning to change the whole wiring and cables? to which he replied: "that is not necessary you already have good wires and cables capable to carry on with the upgrade", and so he did not change anything. Uhmm.

2- Do you want to know where to install the Ethernet outlet? "What Ethernet outlet?" he replied, and so he didn't install the Ethernet outlet.

Since he arrived, I can tell he was in a hurry.

After 30 minutes at my house, he said: "I'll see what I can do about the Ethernet outlet". That is great I replied. However, when he was done, he mentioned that "after talking to his supervisor (Rene Castillo, 301-704-1442)  "I need an electrician to do the wiring first them the tech can install the Ethernet outlet", what?

When the tech left my house the internet was working. However, after a while, it wasn't. I called Brandon no answer. I then called his Supervisor Rene Castillo, and after resetting my router and 30 plus minutes over the phone the internet was working again.

Now, here come the lying and the blame and the unprofessionalism.

1- After mentioning the Ethernet outlet deal to her, she denied talking to Brandon about it, and she agreed the outlet should have been installed for a $65. She then started to continuously repeat the tech was in trouble for saying that he spoke to her. Right there it shows you the kind of people we are dealing with.

2- Ms. Castillo also agreed to send Brandon or another technician the next morning to install the Ethernet outlet, and that she will call me around 10 am to confirm (I am still waiting for the call and for the technician). Even today when I call, they do not answer my calls. What kind of professionalism and service is this Verizon?

3- So, here is the deal, who is lying? the person who took my order (I think she is a Verizon employee, or not?), the technician (I think he is working for an outside contractor), or the supervisor (is she the outside contractor)? What a nightmare. Where is Verizon in all of this? ufff.

4-In addition, I have learned today I don't have 1 GB of internet speed, only 130.6 Mbps. Are you lying Verizon? What's going on here?  Furthermore, there are channels missing (they replace the router and I think the change affected my Fios TV services too), which means the upgrade didn't include the plan I had before or the tech or his supervisor did not do his job.

5- Wasn't the tech supposed to make sure everything was working before leaving the site? and wasn't he supposed to show me all the changes and new connections? and wasn't he supposed to install the Ethernet outlet and charge the fee?

This is by far the worst services I have ever seen from Verizon. I am seriously thinking of switching to another carrier. This is unacceptable Verizon.

FIOS Internet Disconnected Early Before My Specified Stop Service Date

Please escalate this complaint as I tried resolving this by phone and chat it did not work.

There is no email address or form I can send a support request to, so I am hoping to get a resolution here.

On 1/16/2020 I went onto the FIOS app to set up a MOVE to a new address.

I set the disconnect date to 1/30/2020 for my current address.

I set the installation date to my new address to 2/1/2020.

My FIOS service was disconnected immediately on 1/16 instead of 1/30.

My router continues to display the red globe icon.

Two days later I  called support and was on the phone for about 90 minutes and was transferred about 7 times.

Part way through the call the second agent I was connected with said that they could reverse the mistake and turn the service back on instantly. After being transferred to the next agent, I was told that the only solution was to create a new account. This included going through the whole process including another credit check. I complied. She assured me the service would come back on instantly. My router still shows the red globe and I cannot get back online. I checked my fios web account  and it looks like they are dispatching a technician in a few days. All the hardware is already hooked up here. No one should have to come here in person.

Here is what I need.

1) My account at my current address to come back on, no technician. Just turn it back on instantly please. My plan is currently the 300 mbps w/ autopay discount.

2) Schedule installation of FIOS to my new address I am moving to on 2/1/2020. This is the 1GB plan with auto pay discount.

If this cannot be done then immediately cancel my service and cancel the new installation I have scheduled on feb 1, 2020.

Extending WiFi network

I have existing Verizon Fios Quantum Gateway.... it's down in basement which is not ideal.

With more and more need for WiFi connected devices the signal strength is just not good enough...... so looking to add and extender.

I live in a 5 bed SFH with basement,  1st and 2nd Floors.

Looks like the Fios Network Extender WCB6200Q is compatible with me existing router.

Interested in thoughts of others with this extender - is it meeting needs especially with things like Amazon Fire TV sticks?

Can I extend from existing router with Cat5 Ethernet which I have existing.

Do you have option to use same or different SSID?

Those using single SSID do you have issues moving floor to floor and device not moving to best signal?

Will just adding one extender be enough or will I be better to add one on 1st and another on the 2nd?

Thanks for any feedback.

I have the fios gigabit  service. when watching a youtube video it lags and loads all the time. I did a speed check via verion website and also speedtestcom. both say download speed between 5 and 7 mbps but upload is at 900. I tried using 3 different ethernet cords , same issue. unplugged the ethernet and used the wifi and got the same results. this is  on a dell desktop  2 years old. now when I use my galaxy s7 on wifi it says the speed is like 800 mbps. any thoughts.

Question about ethernet / coax connectability

Hello all.  I have FIOS gigabit internet only -- no tv.

There is a Cat-5 ethernet cable coming into the family room on the first level of my house.   It connects to a Quantum router.  A coax cable runs from the router and into the wall.

I want to move the router upstairs.

My question:  do I need the router as the access point for the Cat-5 ethernet, or is there a way to bypass the router completely and use some sort of adapter to connect the Cat-5 ethernet male to the coax male on the wall?

Thanks very much.

Using Google Nest Wifi Router and MOCA Adapter

Hello-

There are a bunch of threads on using your own router - but it seems like most people are continuing to use the Gateway as the MOCA adapter.  I am trying to eliminate the extra charge and equipment - so when I set up my Google Nest wifi, I purchased an Actiontec Bonded MoCA 2.0 Ethernet to Coax Adapter (ECB6200) to add on instead of keeping the Gateway.

The internet is working great, my Fios One STBs (all connected via coax) are working - however I have lost the ability to program my DVR remotely and have on-demand and the caller ID pop up.  I saw a few threads that said it was possible to save those.  However, I could never see the way people did update their settings for it.  Does anyone know how that is possible, if it is?  And if I were to add an additional STB, could it just connect over WiFi?

FIos Router

I am very dissatisfied with the service I am receiving from FIOS right now.  I purchased a router from you in September and It has stopped working already.  I spoke to someone in tech support that said the router was defective.   He then transferred me to the billing department to see if this could be resolved.  This was not resolved to my satisfaction as I was told I needed purchase another $200.00 router.   This is completely unacceptable.   I have been a customer for nearly 3 years.   For a company that proudly states that they "never stop working" for their customer, it has now been my experience that you sell defective routers that stop working after a few months so you can charge your customer again.

Problems setting up internet-only self-install fios service

$

I recently moved to an apartment with a pre-existing fios ONT installed (but no leftover fios router) and chose an internet-only package. Because of this, I was able to elect to self-install and use my own router. The activation date of my service is today, January 22nd.

Last night I called to make sure I had everything I needed and was not waiting for additional equipment. The service representative confirmed that since the ONT is already here, all I need to do is plug my router in to any ethernet port in my unit after midnight (I specifically asked what time). She then tried to sell me a $40 TV package. I politely declined, thanked her for her time, and hung up.

This morning, I tried setting up the router. I plugged it in to the ethernet port to find that it was not receiving internet. After scouring the forums, I learned that by default, the ONT outputs a coaxial signal, not ethernet, meaning that unless I use their router and/or TV package, I cannot receive internet. The forum posts I found indicate that the only way around this is to spend about 45 minutes trying to convince support to send a technician out to swap the output of the ONT. Is this the case, or is there something else I can do?

Thanks.
