cannot fax with new fibre optic connection

I have an HP OfficeJet 5740 and had no problem sending a fax with my former DSL connection. Just recently was converted to FIOS and fax will not work. All the phone connectivity is in another room and my wall outlets no longer work. I have tried moving the OfficeJet into the other room and connecting it with a cable directly to the phone connection on the router and that didn't work. Suggestions welcome.
