Using my own router and getting STB to pull program information, VOD

Like many others, I don't like the Verizon router supplied with my Fios service and want to use my own.  I have my reasons, so please don't tell me the Verizon router should be used.  I've searched and followed the procedures laid out by others.  The Verizon router that I have is an Actiontec MI424WR Rev. I.  I only have coax from the ONT to the router.  This is a rental house, so trying to get Cat 5e from the ONT (in the garage) to the router (in the living room) ain't happening.  Ultimatetly, I want to have my router provide the internet routing services (basically remove the Verizon router from the internet equation) yet also have the STB work with program information and VOD.  I have been successful in getting my router inserted in the system and the Verizon router turned into a bridge.  However, the STB does not pull program info and VOD doesn't work.  Here is what I did:

1. Hardware reset Actiontec.

2. (For the next several steps, my computer was connected directly to LAN connection on Actiontec) Log into Actiontec.

3.  Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Network (Home/Office) – Settings – IP Address – Set to 192.168.5.1 (my ultimate LAN from my router will be 192.168.1.1) – Apply

4.  Top Menu – Wireless Settings – Side Menu – Basic Security Settings – Wireless Off – Apply
5. Top Menu – Firewall Settings – Side Menu – General – Minimum – Apply
6. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Advanced
7. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Broadband (Coax) – Settings – Release – Apply

8. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – IP Distribution – Disable – Apply
9. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – DNS Server – No DNS Server – Apply
10. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – IP Address – No IP Address – Apply
11. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Network (Home/Office) – Settings – IP Distribution – Disable – Apply
12. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – DNS Server – No DNS Server – Apply
13. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – UNcheck Box to Left of Wireless – Apply

14. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – Check Box to left of Broadband (Coax), Uncheck box to Right of Ethernet/Coax (STP) and Check the STP box to the right of Broadband (Coax) - Apply

15.  Top Menu – Advanced – MAC Cloning – Set Mac of Device – Broadband (Coax) - I changed the WAN MAC of the Actiontec to be the MAC address of my router.

16. I unplugged my computer cable from the Actiontec, connected a cable from Actiontec LAN port 1 to my router WAN port, and connected my computer to my router LAN port.

17.  I changed the WAN MAC of my router to be the MAC address of the Actiontec.

18.  I plugged a cable from my router LAN port to Actiontec WAN port.

At this point, I get internet through my router, everything internet related works fine.  But not STB program info or VOD.  If I try to plug my computer ethernet directly into a LAN port on the Actiontec, then go to 192.168.5.1 via web browser (after setting the IP address of my computer to 192.168.5.9), I can't access the Actiontec.  Any help?
